Cheryl Cole has revealed she was caught in New York during the recent weather crisis in the US, when Hurricane Sandy shut down the city, causing death and destruction.
The singer was in the US when the hurricane struck, causing destruction across the country's East Coast - shutting down New York in the process. Cheryl Cole was in New York at the time, and took to Twitter to speak of her relief of escaping the city this morning (3 November, 2012).
"So glad to be out of NYC! Hurricane Sandy was one of the strangest experiences of my life. We take so much for granted," she told fans, before sending a message of sympathy to those still affected by the natural disaster.
"My heart and prayers go out to everyone badly affected by the storm.. So devastating."
Earlier this week, rock legend Jon Bon Jovi spoke of making the reverse trip - fleeing London to return to the US to be with his family in New Jersey, one of the East Coast state worst hit by the hurricane.
"I really need to get back home having spoken to my wife and kids, who are stuck in New York," says the 50-year-old star, according to The Metro. "I need to be with my people. Thankfully, my family are safe.
"There is no power, water, the devastation is off the charts. The president is in my hometown in New Jersey because of the damage. It's like Armageddon. Where my children surf, 80 houses burnt down."

Many music stars took to Twitter to share messages of support for those caught in the chaos on America's East Coast, with singer Sean Kingston warning fans of rumoured shark sightings in the waters that flooded New Jersey.
Heard somebody seen a shark just swimming in there neighborhood.. because of#Hurricanesandy this is crazy stay safe people!" Kingston tweeted, (sic).
Rapper Kendrick Lamar likened the event to a wet t-shirt competition, tweeting: "Hurricane Sandy over here super soaking these hoes."
