More about:

The shortlist for the 2012 Festival Awards has been revealed, with the biggest festivals, headliners and toilets going head to head at this year's event.

In the absence of Glastonbury on the 2012 festival scene, a number of other major events are competiting for the coveted Best Major Festival prize - including Bestival, Download, Reading & Leeds, V and BBC Radio One Hackney Weekend.

There are also categories for Best Medium, Small and New festivals - plus awards for best dance and metropolitan event. Sadly, in a year which saw the Sonisphere festival cancelled and traditional rock events such as Download and Reading & Leeds open their gates to more mainstream acts, there is no Best Rock event in the awards.

Alongside the competiting festivals for the titles, headliners and newcomers are also going head to head in the 2012 Festival Awards.

The Stone Roses, Stevie Wonder, Metallica and The Cure are among the bands in the running for the best headliner title while MOBO winner Emeli Sande rivals Mercury Music Prize champions Alt-J, Azealia Banks, Jake Bugg and Lana Del Rey for the Best Breakthrough Act.

The winners of the 2012 awards will be chosen by a panel of experts on 3 December 2012 at an event at Camden's Roundhouse.
