US duo The Civil Wars have been forced to scrap all forthcoming UK dates - and promise fans refunds - due to what the band describe as 'irreconcilable differences of ambition'.

The duo, John Paul White and Joy Williams, made the announcement on their Facebook page, speaking of their disappointment at being forced to pull out of their upcoming shows.

"We sincerely apologize for the canceling of all of our tour dates. It is something we deeply regret," the band told fans. "However, due to internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition we are unable to continue as a touring entity at this time. We thank each and every one of you for your amazing love & support."

The duo spoke of their hopes to instead return to the studio, adding: "Our sincere hope is to have new music for you in 2013."

The band also offered to repay fans who had been left out of pocked by the announcement, further saying: "We understand that there are many of you stuck with service charges and travel reservations due to our abrupt cancelations. Please email us at info@thecivilwars.com if there are costs incurred that you would like to be reimbursed for, include a scan or attachment to your receipt(s) of the costs, and we will do our best to reimburse you for non-refundable charges."

Earlier this year, The Civil Wars ahred an exclusive behind the scenes video with Gigwise viewers, before the band hit turmoil and differences between the duo emerged.

It is thought that the duo's current crisis is due to Williams' recently becoming a mum for the first time and the increasing demands of motherhood.
