More about: Robbie Williams
Robbie Williams, a sprightly 38, has revealed that his record label has told him that he is 'too old' to make pop music.
The sentiment echoes that of Radio One, who recently decided not to play his No.1 single 'Candy' are he is not relevant to their audience.
Now, Robbie has revealed that his record label have told him something similar.
ContactMusic report Robbie as saying that his record label has previously told him: "'Maybe it's too poppy, maybe you're a bit too old to do that sort of stuff, why don't you release a more safe thing'."
Robbie has proven his critics wrong by hitting No.1 with pop song 'Candy' and Robbie is understandably thrilled.
"I stuck by my guns and said, 'This sounds like a hit to me', and luckily, thankfully I've been proved right," he adds. "There is a lot of vindication, happiness and relief."

Robbie previously hit back at comments from Radio One that they would not play 'Candy' as they did not consider it relevant to their audience.
"They’ve got a job to do and a business to look after and they’ve always been incredibly supportive of me and for that I thank them very, very much.
"If they never play a record of mine again, I thank them for the support they have given me and, if they do, then bless them too," Robbie told the The Metro this week. "Nothing’s personal, it’s not a vendetta against Robbie Williams but they better not play Coldplay or Madonna or I’ll break their legs."
