Example sparks Twitter war with the entire population of Wigan

Example is at war with a Wigan newspaper after comments he made about the town on his Twitter.

The front page of yesterday's Wigan Evening Post featured a picture of the London-based rapper with the headline "Bad Example".

The article came after he claimed on his Twitter that he receives more abuse from residents of the Lanacashire town than anywhere else in the UK.

He reportedly asked his 1.5million followers 'does anyone know any nice people from Wigan? Because all I hear is death threats'.

The tweet was removed, but when Wigan residents questioned his statement on the social networking site, his reply only made tensions worse.

"Tweeted earlier about how most abuse I get on twitter is from people in Wigan. Unsurprisingly this has resulted in more abuse... from Wigan."

The article went on to state that Example had 'managed to insult a whole town' and that "Wigan has been left stunned after a rap star blasted the town on Twitter."

Following the release of last night's Wigan Evening Post, the 30-year-old also received a torrent of abuse from Wigan-based Twitter users.

One commented: "@example I am from the town of wigan, consider this tweet more abuse, nothing less than u deserve, what u said was very ignorant and rude."

Meanwhile those from further afield were quicker to see the funny side of the article.

Another tweet read: "@example Don't worry about Wigan hating you, everyone hates Wigan."

Last night's damning front page was more bad news for the Example after he recently had to cancel a series of gigs because of a leg injury.

The rapper suffers from an Achilles problem that forced him to cancel nine gigs that were scheduled to be part of his current world tour.

Example has also just unveiled a collaboration with Calvin Harris, that features on the Scottish DJ's new album '18 Months'.
