Rising singer/songwriter Gabrielle Aplin is the star of the new John Lewis Christmas advert (along with a lovestruck snowman), with her cover of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'The Power Of Love'. Listen to the track.

Gabrielle has put her own spin on her cover of the Frankie Goes To Hollywood classic, which is released today - and will make its debut on the John Lewis advert during Derren Brown later tonight.

John Lewis asked Gabrielle to record the track and although she was hesitant, she agreed to do so.

Gabrielle explained that it was important for her to create a new version of the song, saying, "The lyrics are so strong and powerful but the song is so intricate and beautiful, I was fascinated with the juxtaposition of it.

"What I really wanted to do was strip the production away but keep the energy of the song. And I wanted it to be minimal and wintry."

Coincidentally, the single is likely to make its chart impact almost 28 years to the day after the song's original release on 19 November 1984.

Hopefully Gabrielle's cover of 'The Power of Love' will follow in the footsteps of songs previously featured on John Lewis adverts to become a hit.

Ellie Goulding's cover of Elton John's 'Your Song' made number one after it featured in their 2010 ad and, in 2011, both the cover and the original of The Smiths' 'Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want' entered the charts.

Gabrielle's debut album is to be released in spring next year, after the release of her single 'Please Don't Say You Love Me' on 10 February.
