Love letters written by Mick Jagger in the summer of '69 are being sold by ex-girlfriend Marsha Hunt at an upcoming London auction.
Hunt is selling the love letters, written over 40 years ago in the summer of 1969, as she has become penniless in her old age and needs the cash. The letters are reported to have been written by Jagger while he was in Australia filming the movie Ned Kelly and are influenced by the poetry of Emily Dickinson.
Hunt spoke to The Guardian about her choice to sell the documents and insists she is only parting with them due to her financial circumstances.
"I'm broke," she tells the broadsheet. "I had friends who came to visit from Pennsylvania and there was no electricity in the house because the bill had been too high.
"One friend said, 'Surely you have something you can sell?'"
Mick Jagger met fans at the band's recent gig in Paris
Hunt is confident that selling the letters is the right thing to do as she believes only a genuine Jagger fan will buy them. "Someone will protect them and someone who protects them will protect me because I will make enough money from the sale to repair my house in France."
"The letters speak for Mick at an incredible juncture in our lives. The summer of 69 was the end of a whole era of revolutionary spirit - we didn't know it was about to die.
"The sale is important. Someone I hope will buy those letters as our generation is dying and with us will go the reality of who we were and what life was."
The auction will be held at Sothebys auction house in London and are expected to fetch between £70k - £100k.
