Perhaps against fans' expectations, The Vaccines have revealed they support talent shows such as the X Factor.

Frontman Justin Young told BBC News that shows like X Factor can sometimes be the only way young singers can find success in the modern music industry.

"People expect us to turn our noses up at these shows, but I think that for a lot of people it's the only opportunity they're going to get and I think it's as valid as going out and playing show after show every night.

"I actually think the talent shows hark back to the 50s, 60s era of variety stuff, I think they're the old fashioned way."

The Vaccines released their second studio album, Come Of Age, in September and have enjoyed a fairly swift climb to success since forming in 2009. Last weekend saw the band play at Alexandra Palace, the group's biggest show to date.

"That was the first moment where I thought 'this is real'. It takes a long time to sink in," said guitarist Freddie Cowan.

But the band have dismissed the suggestion that they now have their eye on the US, saying that cracking America is a big task.

"America is a scary concept," said Young.

"If you want to break America you have to spend the majority of time there. It's an enormous country," added Cowen.

"You choose territories."

Despite the indie band's comments, recent results on the show have led some fans to label it a 'joke' and a 'farce'.

Despite being fan favourite, Ella Henderson was unexpectedly booted from the show last weekend, with Simon Cowell leading the tweets of disbelief.
