In the latest bizarre story about Christopher Maloney, the X Factor contestant is now being accused of attempting to strangle a woman on a cruise ship in 2005.

Janette Gailbrath and Maloney worked together as carabet singers on the MSC Lirica, and sang 'A Whole New World' from Aladdin together - originally getting along well.

However, Gailbrath says that Maloney soon began to accuse her of putting him off and blaming her if something went wrong in his performances.

She told the Sunday Mirror, "Living on a cruise liner can be very claustrophobic - and living with Christopher became a nightmare."

On Christmas Eve, the pair got into an argument about whether Maloney could bring someone back to the cabin they shared, when Gailbrath claims that he just snapped after she told him that no one on the ship liked him.

She said, "His face totally changed. It was like he was someone else. His eyes started to burn red and he began shouting. He lunged towards me and grabbed me around the throat. I screamed and tried to get him off.

"Somehow I managed to get loose and ran out of the cabin, crying. I cried for hours that night."

She told her mother and boyfriend about it, and then asked her manager if he could move her into a different cabin.

Gailbrath added, "I told him they either got me away from Christopher or got me off the ship altogether."

Apparently, Maloney later lost his job for drinking in front of passengers. He was also reportedly fired from a job at a debt collection agency in Liverpool later for 'serious misconduct' after 'lunging across a desk at a female manager'.

An X Factor spokesperson told MailOnline, "Chris denies the allegations."
