Dolly Parton has spoken out about the rumours that she's a lesbian - telling US news show Nightline that she's not gay.

Lately, it has been suggested that the country singer is in a relationship with her childhood best friend, Judy Ogle. However, Parton says that the rumours are just that.

She told the show, "Judy and I have been best friends since we were, like, in the third and fourth grade...

"We still just have a great friendship and relationship and I love her as much as I love anybody in the whole world, but we're not romantically involved."

Parton - who has been married to Carl Thomas Dean for over 40 years - added, "(People) just think that you just can't be that close to somebody."

She also spoke about the rumours of her promiscuous past, although she wasn't quite as candid about that.

Parton said coyly, "I've... been accused of being involved with every man I'm ever seen with or worked with.

"Maybe I have, maybe I ain't. I never tell if I have. But you know people always saying that."
