Muse have been forced to cancel their upcoming gigs in Scandinavia as lead singer Matt Bellamy has broken his foot.

The frontman tweeted a photo of his injury - showing the Westcountry star on crutches and being pounced upon by a dog. Bellamy looked none-too concerned by his canine pal however, as he and the band were more worried about letting Scandinavian fans down, posting an apology on the official Muse Twitter.

"We're very sorry to announce that Muse's live shows in Oslo, Stockholm and Malmo have been cancelled as a result of Matt's broken foot," said an official statement.

"The remaining dates are still scheduled to go ahead as planned, but we'll keep you updated on Matt's progress here."

Bellamy posted two photos on his personal Twitter account - including an x ray of his broken foot.

Muse return to the UK in 2013 for a string of live shows in the summer next year.

Earlier in 2012, Muse promised that their upcoming tour would be their best ever and had taken influence from Pink Floyd on their future live shows.

"I think it’s going to be our best tour so far. It’s like our version of The Wall," Bellamy told US radio station KROQ in October of this year. We’ve built this upside down pyramid structure which is full of video screens. Throughout the gig, it gradually comes down and consumes the band. So we end up eaten up by this pyramid thing, which is all very symbolic, of course. We blast out of it and escape.

"It’s going to be a big experience. This is our Stonehenge tour!"

Tickets for Muse's 2013 shows are on sale now. For more information visit Gigwise Gig Tickets.
