X Factor exposure helps Olly Murs score No.1 single and album

Xtra Factor host  Olly Murs has seen the benefit of appearing on The X Factor, as he celebrates scoring a chart double in this week's new top forty albums and singles, hitting No.1 on both.

Murs retains the singles top spot with his Flo Rida collaboration 'Troublemaker' and scores a new entry at No.1 on the album charts with Right Place Right Time. On the singles chart he sees off competition from international superstar Bruno Mars and Rihanna, who place at No.2 and No.3 respectively. Labrinth and Emeli Sande are at No.4 with 'Beneath Your Beautiful' and Alicia Keys is at No.5 with her single, 'Girl On Fire'.

The only other new entry in the Top Ten comes from Ke$ha with her new single, 'Die Young'.

The Christmas effect is felt in the charts this week as modern classics The Pogues and Kirsty Maccoll's festive hit 'Fairytale Of New York' and Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' make their annual return to the charts at No.27 and No.30 respectively. New entries close to the bottom of the Top 40 comes from Imagine Dragons who score two placings with 'Radioactive' at No.35 and 'Hear Me' at No.37.

The Script enter at No.38 with 'Six Degrees Of Separation', Ladywell Primary School enter at No.39 with 'O Holy Night' and Athlete benefit from an X Factor cover as they enter at No.40 with 'Wires'.


Olly Murs popularity has been boosted by his Xtra Factor presenting job

On the album chart, apart from Olly Murs entering at No.1, Neil Diamond's The Very Best Of is new at No.8 and Girls Aloud's singles collection Ten is at No.9. Jeff Wayne enters at No.13 with The War Of The Worlds New Generation, Alicia Keys enters at No.15 with Girl On Fire and Il Divo debut at No.17 with The Greatest Hits.

McFly enter at No.21 with their hits collection Memory Lane: The Best Of, Kelly Clarkson enters at No.24 with her Greatest Hits: Chapter One and Katherine Jenkins debuts at No.26 with This Is Christmas.
