More about: Peter Doherty
Former Libertines star Pete Doherty is currently seeking rehab in Paris, and revealed he chose the city as he would be unable to score decent drugs in the French capital.
The troubled star also adds that his decision to once again attempt to get clean is also due to his responsibilities as a father.
"Being in Paris is me making a statement of intent. It's like saying "I'm trying." Because it's so difficult to get decent gear over here," says Doherty in a new interview with The Guardian.
"I've got to make an effort now for my family, my son, my father. I'm not 23 anymore I'm 33 for Christ's sake," he adds, before revealing he has plans to settle down further to make a more secure life for seven-year-old son Astile, adding: "I'd like to make a family...."
Doherty's most recent rehab attempt ended in disaster when he was thrown out of The Cabin treatment centre in Thailand for 'disruptive' behaviour.
"Pete was discharged today for therapeutic reasons," said the centre's programme director Alastair Modey in July 2012. "It is important to maintain the integrity of the treatment programme for the other clients to have a good chance of recovery. Pete understands this and therefore the reasons behind why we have asked him to leave."

In October of this year, Doherty was caught up in a typically bizarre drama when he was unable to travel on French rail after stealing a trolley of uniforms and cold meats.
"The train is out of the question. "I am currently in discussion with SNCF regarding my accountability for a missing trolley-load of staff uniforms (gaberdine wool mind you), cold meats, cutlery," he tweeted.
He also recently revealed that he and Amy Winehouse were once lovers.
