Bestival has been named the Best Major Festival of 2012 at the annual UK Festival Awards, which took place in London on 3 December 2012.

The Isle Of Wight event was named Best Medium Festival in 2005 and has since gone on to win awards at nearly every year since. Bestival won the Medium Festival award again in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. It won Best Major Festival in 2012, was voted Fans' Favourite Festival in 2011 and now secures its place as one of the greatest events of the year by winning the Best Major Festival event for 2012.

Welsh event Festival No.6 was named Best New Festival at the London ceremony on Monday night - and the organiser of the Portmeirion show, Gareth Cooper, was named Promoter Of The Year.

New Order scooped the highly coveted Headline Performance Of The Year award for their slot at Festival No.6. They also headlined Bestival in 2012.

Meanwhile, Jake Bugg won Best Breakthrough Act ahead of Mercury Music Prize winners Alt-J while Django Django's 'Default' was crowned Anthem Of The Year.

Download Festival won Best Line-Up for their 2012 event which included performances from The Prodigy, Chase & Status, Slash, Cancer Bats, Metallica, You Me At Six, Biffy Clyro and Tenacious D.
