Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl came up with the idea for his debut movie project Sound City after purchasing the legendary custom-built Neve 8028 recording console from Sound City Studios last year.

The board is considered as the crown jewel of analog recording equipment even though it was put together over 30 years ago.

The board has been used by some of the biggest artists in rock history including Nirvana, Metallica, Guns and Roses and Rage Against the Machine to name just a few.

The film showcases the amazing history of the studio through interviews and demonstrations of the board being used exclusively for the film.

Directing debutant, Grohl said: "As a first time director, I am humbled to be able to share my passion for songwriting and storytelling with this incredible cast of legendary musicians, as seen through the extraordinary story of America's greatest unsung recording studio, Sound City."

Grohl's love affair with the studio began in 1991 when recording Nirvana's breakthrough album, Nevermind, which sold 30 million copies worlwide.

The film is set to be premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

Grohl continued: "Being included in this group of artists is a true honour, and the Sundance Film Festival is the perfect place to premiere a film about craft, integrity, and passion for art. I am over the moon!"
