Mumford & Sons lead UK charge on the 55th Grammy Awards

Mumford & Sons, Ed Sheeran and Adele are among the many British artists who have picked up nominations at the 55th Grammy Awards, with the Babel band among the 2012 frontrunners with six nominations.

Nominated British talent includes Adele, Ed Sheeran, Florence + the Machine, Estelle, Paul McCartney and Calvin Harris.

Ed Sheeran was nominated for Song of the Year with his hit 'The A-Team', with Estelle getting the Best R&B Performance nod for 'Thank You'. Coldplay and Muse were nominated for Best Rock Album for Mylo Xyloto and The 2nd Law respectively, with Muse's 'Madness' also nominated for Best Rock Song.

Adele won six awards at the Grammys this year, but but only received one nomination for next year - music had to be released between 1 October 2011 and 30 September 2012 to be considered, and Adele did not release any music during this time frame.

The prestigious Album of the Year category sees Mumford & Sons' Babel nominated, as well as Frank Ocean's Channel ORANGE, fun.'s Some Nights, Jack White's Blunderbuss and The Black Keys' El Camino.

Alabama Shakes are nominated in the Best New Artist category, alongside Hunter Hayes, The Lumineers, and fun. and Frank Ocean.

Speaking about the nominations, fun. told reporters backstage at the Grammy nominations concert, "Receiving the nomination is amazing and a culmination of hard work the three of us have put into this band."

As well as their Best New Artist and Album of the Year nominations, fun. are also up for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and Best Pop Vocal Album.

Competition in Record of the Year comes from Kelly Clarkson, with 'Stronger (What Doesn't Kill  You)', Gotye with 'Somebody I Used To Know', fun. with 'We Are Young', The Black Keys' 'Lonely Boy', Frank Ocean's 'Thinkin Bout You' and Taylor Swift's 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together'.

Jay-Z and Kanye West are also nominated in six categories, and Dan Auerbach picked up five nominations with band The Black Keys and one solo nomination for Producer of the Year.

The 55th annual Grammy Awards will be held at LA's Staples Center on February 10, 2013.
