Ke$ha's new album, Warrior, has proved to be something of a flop after failing to reach the top five on Billboard's Hot 200 Chart.

Taylor Swift's album Red returned to the top spot, selling 167,000 copies, compared to the 85,0000 sold by Ke$ha.

Swift's album sales increased by 22 per cent over last week's sales.

Ke$ha's new album is a musical shift from her debut Animal, which reached number one during an admittedly dry patch in January 2012.

The singer told the Huffington Post that the new record represents her current sate of mind.

"I write about my life in my music and I have very little filter so basically it would be impossible for me to separate my music and the rest of my life," she said.

"My music is a representation of my life and vice-versa."

Warrior sees the singer working with rockers such as The Black Keys' Patrick Carney and Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips, as well as dueting with Iggy Pop.

Ke$ha had previously promised that the new record would wow fans and might even cause them to wet their pants.

She also recently admitted to having sex with a ghost, although she didn't catch his name.

"I've had a couple of experiences with the supernatural," she told US Weekly. "I'm very open to it."

Ke$ha's sexcapades also recently landed her in the press when a photo of her giving oral sex was released online.

The 'Tik Tok' star drew criticism earlier this month when she expressed support for a teen mum who skipped jail because she had front row seats for a Ke$ha show.

Perhaps her recent publicity has had a detremental impact on Ke$ha's record sales.

Taylor Swift's Red, which sold 1.2m copies in its first week, was bumped from the top spot last week by Alcia Keys' Girl On Fire, but Swift rose to the top again this week amid a lukewarm collection of new releases.
