Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder has outed himself as a fan of X Factor winner James Arthur, but reckons the singer could do with a trip to his dentist.

Ryder, who has himself enjoyed the benefits of a mouth makeover has revealed he was an occasional viewer of the ITV talent show but recommends Arthur have dental work to fix his smile.

"I've seen quite a bit. I quite like that James Arthur kid. He's good but he should see my dentist," said Ryder in an interview with The Sun newspaper, before also revealing himself as a fan of One Direction.

"Harry Styles and that?" he says when asked about the boyband. "Came runners-up, didn’t they? Bunch of kids having a great time. Brilliant."

James Arthur recently revealed that one of his first priorities after winning The X Factor was to get his teeth sorted out.

James Arthur's teeth aren't that bad, surely?

James Arthur told the Daily Mirror in a recent interview: "I am going to get my teeth sorted out and whitened. Not for vain reasons - I have always wanted to get them done. I'm a singer. I don't want to open my mouth and have these crooked teeth going on."

"It's just a thing, everyone has their hang-ups. I've always thought I'm pretty ugly. If I get one comment saying I need my teeth sorted out, I can't forget it."

We're guessing he didn't take Frankie Boyle's earlier tweet lightly then, in which the comedian said, "James Arthur looks like someone put a sheep's teeth into a baby's head." Ouch.
