Bruno Mars has matched Justin Timberlake's US chart record with the release of latest single, 'Locked Out of Heaven'.

The newest track from the singer is already number one on the Billboard Pop Songs chart, which makes it his fifth - a record that is only matched by Justin Timberlake and Nelly.

The three artists are now the male solo artists with the most number ones on the Pop Songs chart. They're followed by Flo Rida, with four number ones, and then Eminem, Chris Brown, Timbaland, Ludacris and Kanye West have all achieved three.

Female solo artists tend to fare better - Katy Perry and Rihanna are in the lead with nine number ones each. They're followed by Pink, with eight, Lady Gaga, and Britney with seven each, Beyonce and Mariah Carey with six, and Christina Aguilera and Avril Lavigne with five.

Bruno's latest album Unorthodox Jukebox - which 'Locked Out of Heaven' is taken from - is also number one on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, as well as on iTunes.

The album was recently named the fastest selling solo album of the year, according to the Official Charts Company, as it debuted at number one on the Official Albums Chart with sales of 136,000 copies.
