Lostprophets frontman appears in Cardiff court to face a number of child sex offence charges

Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins has appeared in Cardiff Magistrates court alongside two unnamed females on six counts of child sex offences.

The rock frontman was charged with conspiracy to rape a child aged under 13, conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child aged under 13, possession of indecent images of children, making indecent images of children, distributing indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornography, reports WalesOnline.

All three will be remanded in custody until 31 December 2012, when they will appear at Cardiff Crown Court.

South Wales police issued the following statement earlier today:

"A Pontypridd man has been charged with sexual offences against children and is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates' Court today.

"The 35-year-old has been charged with conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a female under 13 and possession/distribution of indecent images of children.

"In order to assist their investigation, South Wales Police has named the man as Ian Watkins, a member of the rock group Lostprophets."

Watkins was one of the founders of the hugely successful Welsh band, who formed in 1997 and have sold 3.5million albums in their 15-year career. They released their fifth album Weapons in April of this year.
