BBC Leicester has reported that the Leicester music festival Summer Sundae will not go ahead in 2013, and will instead take a 'sabbatical', citing a fall in audience numbers as the cause.
Last year's Summer Sundae Festival's line up included Katy B, Ocean Colour Scene and Public Image Ltd. Adult weekend tickets were priced at £105, considerably less expensive than the likes of Reading & Leeds Festival, which was priced at £197.50 in 2012.
In an offical statement posted on the festival's website the organisers stated: 'We have taken this decision against the backdrop of a very difficult year for festivals in 2012. The Olympics, the recession and the weather have created a perfect storm leaving many independent festivals struggling to survive.
"We feel it's a good idea to take the next year to look at different models and fresh ideas to bring the festival back for 2014 and beyond."
Ocean Colour Scene headlined the festival in 2012
The news comes against an increasingly difficult time for festivals. Earlier this year Festival Republic were forced to cancel the Big Chill Festival for the first time in 18 years. Sonisphere Festival, due to feature Kiss, Queen and Faith No More suffered the same fate and was also cancelled.
2013 marks the centenery of Leicester's De Montfort Hall. The general manager of the venue has reported that in place of Summer Sundae a range of arts events will be taking place.
