Ke$ha has taken back claims that she was 'forced' to sing the lyrics of her hit 'Die Young' after a video showing her taking responsibility for the track was revealed.
The single was withdrawn from US radio playlists after the Sandy Hook gun massacre and the star later claimed she had never wanted to sing the lyrics in the first place.
"I understand. I had my very own issue with 'Die Young' for this reason… I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO," she tweeted after the track was removed from playlists.
However, in an interview that Ke$ha gave to New York radio station 95.5 WPLJ, she takes full credit for the lyrics and says that they are true to her.
Now, the singer has issued an official statement on the track.
"After such a tragic event I was feeling a lot of emotion and sadness when I said I was forced to sing some of the lyrics to 'Die Young'. Forced is not the right word," she wrote in a statement on KeshasParty.com/
"I did have some concerns about the phrase 'die young' in the chorus when we were writing the lyrics especially because so many of my fans are young and that's one reason why I wrote so many versions of this song.
"But the point of the song is the importance of living every day to the fullest and staying young at heart, and these are things I truly believe."
Ke$ha has teamed up with Iggy Pop on her new album on her track 'Dirty Love'
Ke$ha was caught out when the WPLJ interview resurfaced after her initial claims. In the radio chat, she stated: "I definitely make sure that every word rings true to me because I would never want to misrepresent myself to millions of people around the world ... I wrote and wrote and rewrote that song ten times."
