X Factor winner James Arthur has shown his charitable side after losing out in the race for Christmas No.1, describing The Justice Collective's festive chart topped a 'deserved' chart topper.
Arthur's cover of 'Impossible' and The Justice Collective's 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother' were the two tracks battling for No.1 last week, and despite an early lead in sales, James Arthur placed second in the Christmas chart. Now, Arthur has praised his rival, who were raising funds for victims of the Hillsborough football disaster.
"He ain't heavy he's my brother the deserved Xmas number 1," he tweeted on Sunday night. "Beautiful song and a very worthy cause. Bless all affected by the disaster #LOVE."
The two tracks were locked in a tight chart battle leading up to the Christmas No.1, the closest in three years. Official Charts Company Managing Director Martin Talbot said, "This really is the closest No.1 battle we can remember - even closer than the legendary 2009 battle between Rage Against the Machine and Joe McElderry."
James Arthur missed out on the Christmas No.1 - but didn't seem to mind
Arthur was unable to offer the same spirit of charity to former X Factor winner Matt Cardle, with the simmering feud between the two this week escalating, as Arthur claimed Cardle's albums belonged in an Asda bargain bin.
Arthur made direct insults at Matt Cardle, who recently claimed that Arthur had offended him and should wait to hit out at previous X Factor winners until he had sold as many albums. But James Arthur didn't take this lightly. He has taken to Twitter to escalate the feud further.
"2 million returned and now live in the bargain bin at asda give it up the tunes are brutal.. the desperation for press is embarrassing," Tweeted Arthur, before adding: "Jealousy is a weak emotion.. Learnt that in the real world where I lived for quite some time.."
