Capital Steez, real name Jamal Dewal, is thought to have committed suicide and was confirmed dead on Christmas Eve.
The 19 year old rapper was part of the Pro Era collective, which included other up and coming rappers such as Joey Bada$$ and Dirty Sanchez.
On Christmas Eve (24 December) Dewal posted a tweet on his Twitter account reading simply, "The end."
Joey took to his Twitter account to confirm Dewal's death, writing, "This unfortunate xmas eve.. Lost a best friend, a brother, a pro, a partner. Letting go is never easy.. May ur soul rest in peace Jamal.."
He later added, "You was my n***a when push came to shove.. 1 wutt? 1luv!" May ur soul rest in peace bro.." and posted a photo of him and Dewal.
He finished, "wanna thank everyone who sent their condolences. Me and the pros are holding up strong.. 1luv bless."
Joey Bada$$ posted the above photo of himself and Steez on his Instagram account
Earlier this month, Dewal had previewed the Pro Era's new mixtape to MTV News.
He said, "I could relate to Chuck [Strangers] about being at the bottom of the totem pole.
"You put yourself in a mind state [where you] lower your expectations, something big is always gonna happen.
"And that's the mind state. I gotta keep reminding myself every day. That's how I kinda stay afloat."
