The Glasgow synth-pop three piece Chvrches has been voted number five in the BBC Sound of 2013 list.

The new music list is voted on by more than 210 industry experts - including music critics, editors and bloggers - and Chvrches have made it into the top five acts.

The longlist of fifteen includes AlunaGeorge, Haim and Palma Violets, amongst others, and the top five will continue to be announced all through the rest of this week.

Lead singer Lauren Mayberry previously spoke to the BBC about her Scottish accent, which has attracted notice for being audible in the band's songs.

She said, "It's not put on, or anything. I don't think singing in your accent should be a badge of honour.

"I also don't think it's something you have to bury so your band will be more acceptable on radio. That's twisted."

The band are currently working on their debut album in Glasgow, which does not yet have a name.

Speaking to the BBC, band member Iain Cook said, "We have 18 songs in various states.

"We're going to try and finish all of this material by the end of January and then take February to come up with a couple more."
