Angel Haze has landed the 3rd spot in the BBC Sound of 2013 Top 5, joining Laura Mvula and Chvrches. The act that has claimed second place and the act that has topped the list will be announced later this week.
The list is decided by a panel of bloggers, critics and magazine and website editors, with the panel ranking their favourite 3 acts in order of preference. Acts that made the list were judged to be the 'best, most exciting acts' and had to be 'New' to the general public.
Angel Haze has previously spoken to the BBC about her religious upbringing and its effect on her music. The rapper was only given permission to listen to music by her mother at the age of 16. She explained:
"I grew up in a really strict church. It was considered a sin to listen to music. I was totally aware of it. I wanted to be into it, but I wasn't allowed to."
Haze follows electropop trio Chvrches who place third on the list and Laura Mvula, who was voted third.
The Michigan rapper has come 3rd in the Top 5
The rapper signed to Island Records in late 2012 and is currently working on her debut album. She has also reported a potential collaboration with fellow female rapper Azealia Banks is in the pipeline.
