68 year old Bobby Womack has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease - only months after beating cancer.

The American singer-songwriter beat colon cancer in May 2012, and shortly after released his well-received comeback album The Bravest Man in the Universe - which was co-produced by Blur's Damon Albarn.

Now Womack has admitted to The Sun that he even struggles to remember Albarn's name. He said, "The most embarrassing thing is I'll be ready to announce Damon and can't remember his last name."

Womack is thought to be referencing the Q Awards last year, where he introduced Albarn as 'Damon Osbourne'.

He continued, "The doctor says there are signs of Alzheimer's, it's not bad yet but will get worse. How can I not remember songs I wrote? It's frustrating.

"I don't feel together yet. Negative things come in my mind and it's hard for me to remember sometimes."

Albarn spoke about the name mix-up at the Q Awards, saying, "[It keeps] my feet firmly on the ground.

"He picks a new name every night ... At Madison Square Garden he called me Damon Arsebarn. That was the worst!"

Womack announced last year that he is currently working on a follow-up to The Bravest Man in the Universe, to be titled The Best Is Yet To Come.
