100 million album selling US star Patti Page dies aged 85

US singer Patti Page, famous for hits including '(How Much Is That) Doggie In The Window' has died aged 85.

The singer died after suffering heart failure in a nursing home in Encinitas, San Diego on Tuesday, 1 Janury 2013, her managed Michael Glynn told Reuters.

"She'd been having some health issues for the past couple of years," he said. "She was actually doing better yesterday. I spoke to her and she sounded well."

Page sold over 100 millions albums during her 67-year career, and made her name in the 1950s with tracks including 'Tennessee Waltz', 'I Went To Your Wedding' and 'All My Love (Bolero)'. She won a Grammy Award in 1998 for her album 'Live At Carnegie Hall: The 50th Anniversary Concert' and was due to collect a lifetime achievement award at the 2013 Grammys.

The White Stripes famously covered her track 'Conquest' on their 2007 album, 'Icky Thump'.

Fellow US star Carrie Underwood paid tribute to Page on Twitter, writing: "Rest in peace, Patti Page...a fellow Oklahoman who helped pave the way for so many of us ladies in music."

Christina Perri tweeted: "Rest in peace dear patti page, I listen to you everyday and always will."

Iconic Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter tweeted: "RIP Patti Page, a great vocalist."
