Mariah Carey's recent tour of Australia has been labelled as 'awkward', 'unrehearsed' and 'uneven' by critics as she failed to live up to her superstar status.
Carey was down under to celebrate the New Year with a series of shows along the Gold Coast of Sydney and Melbourne. Things got off to a terrible start, though as the opening show of the tour at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre was marred by sound issues and by the singer's late appearance onto the stage.
The popstar even stopped the concert to try and get to the bottom of the sound problems. Carey told the audience: "I'm not asking for the moon and the stars. There's a lot of sound problems going on here. I don't know if it's me or you, or something in the air, but can we fix it?"
Her second show at the Allphones Arena also failed to impress the crowd with many complaining that Carey spent more time off stage than she did on it.

A review published in Time Out Sydney reads: "The problem was that she wasn't on stage enough. There were long exits for pointless costume changes, stretches of filler with her dancers and a song from her backup singer."
These thoughts in were echoed by Rachel Olding of the Brisbane Times. She wrote: "She hobbled around the stage in heels, escorted by mystery males, touched her hair incessantly and disappeared backstage three times while back-up dancers and singers entertained a yawning crowd"
Carey's final show went a little more smoothly, but many still complained that her setlist was too short.
The 42-year-old singer obviously hasn't let the bad press get to her, however, as she tweeted: "I love you Australia and already can't wait to go back!!! Thank you Australia, I love you!!!"
