One Direction are hoping to reclaim their record from Justin Bieber, for the most VEVO views for a music video during its first 24 hours.

The band originally won the title when they released their 'Live While We're Young' music video last year, but when Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj released the video for 'Beauty and a Beat', it beat the boys.

Now One Direction are hoping to regain their title with the release of the video for their latest single, 'Kiss You'.

Niall Horan took to Twitter after the clip was posted on YouTube to encourage fans to view it, writing, "It was soo much fun to make , the best one yet! Let's see can we beat the 24 hour record for most views."

However, Bieber had used a viral campaign in order to rack up the hits on his video. The star had pretended that his laptop had been stolen, and that the thief was going to post leaked footage of Bieber. It was in fact a hoax, and the 'Beauty and a Beat' video was posted instead.

Bieber's video gained 10.6 million views on the video, which was posted in October, which easily beat the 8.2 million views that One Direction had on 'Live While We're Young'.

One Direction are currently getting ready for their upcoming world tour, which starts on 23 February at London's O2 Arena.
