Emeli Sande is the first UK solo artist to spend 47 consecutive weeks in the UK album chart, and the singer has said it's a great reason to party.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Emeli - whose album is number one again this week - said, "It's an excuse to get drunk and celebrate every week. It's great to see it continue to sell without actually pushing it too much. That’s what you want, for word of mouth to sell a record."

She also spoke about her Brit award nominations, as she is currently the bookies' favourite to win both British Album and British Female, with odds of 2/7 and 1/10 respectively.

Emeli said, "For me releasing an album that I really love, in this industry, is really hard, so that was my biggest achievement. Everything else stemmed off that. You go from nobody knowing who you are to doing the Olympics."

The 'Beneath Your Beautiful' singer also mentioned that she's already thinking about the follow up to Our Version Of Events, although she's going to be kept busy with her upcoming US tour.

"I've been trying to write when I can on the tour bus but I'm excited for the campaign to end so I can decide who I am now and what I want to write about," she said. "I'm going to the US this week to tour. It feels nice to start at grass roots level again.

"There are chances to record in America. I would love to duet with Kanye West or Kendrick Lamar. It's great to have written for Rihanna and Alicia Keys. It's so inspiring to see how hard they work."
