Ed Sheeran has said that the follow up to 2011's + won't be released until 2014, as he's too busy touring.

Despite telling The Sun that he has 26 songs written for a new album, Sheeran has no plans to release it any time soon.

"I'm on tour until September and this tour is so long I'll need a break afterwards," he said. "I've written 26 songs for the new album but it won't be released until early 2014 at the earliest."

Sheeran starts his US tour on 17 January in Houston Texas, and will perform 84 dates, finishing on 21 September in Nashville, Tennessee - despite only finishing his UK and Ireland tour yesterday.

However, Sheeran could be under some pressure to live up to the success of his debut album, +. Four top ten singles came out of the album - including both 'The A Team' and 'Lego House' - and it achieved platinum status in the UK five times over, as well as reaching number five on the Billboard chart with it was originally released.

It also recently became number one in New Zealand, and is platinum three times over. Sheeran wrote on Twitter, "After 70 weeks, + is now #1 in new zealand for the first time, and 3 times platinum there. Awesome, see you kiwis in march."

He also told The Sun recently that he doesn't plan on collaborating with big name stars such as Eminem any time soon.

The 'Give Me Love' singer said, "I'm going to wait until a point when I'm on a level where I can make that call, because I don't want any leg ups now.

"I want to do my thing in my scene, my acoustic world, and then go over to the States. I want to be able to get up to a stage where it's not weird to ask someone like Eminem to hop on a tune."
