Frank Ocean, Nick Cave: best new tracks of the week

Photo:

Last week was a great week for new music, but this week might just have topped it, with the eagerly anticipated new track from Justin Timberlake among the new music from the last seven days.

Indie talk of the town Everything Everything have also offered up a brilliant remix to celebrate what's been a fantastic week for the band, and Outkast reunited (well, sort of, but not really) for a Frank Ocean remix.

Here are ten of the best bits of new music from the last week.

If you haven't heard them already, and you really should've, then they're all collected here for your listen pleasure.

Cold War Kids - 'Miracle Mile'
Cold War Kids are preparing to release their fourth album, Dear Miss Lonelyheart, and this week offered 'Miracle Mile' as a taster of what's to come. The track is a pounding piece of guitar-led electronica that soars to elated heights amid an unrelenting rumble of drums. The track is released March 25 with the album to follow on April 1.

Swiss Lips - 'Lost (Frank Ocean Cover)'
Manchester electro band Swiss Lips this week unveiled their cover of Frank Ocean's 'Lost'. Throbbing with fuzzy synths, flooding Ocean's laid back, staccato track with digitalised energy. Swiss Lips are one of the bands set to potentially make the jump into the mainstream in 2013. Their Frank Ocean cover is available to download for free.

Justin Timberlake - 'Suit & Tie'
Arriving just before the internet collapsed under the shear weight of the anticipation being expressed upon it, 'Suit & Tie' had listeners divided. Some were thrilled to have new JT music to plug into their ear sockets, while others felt the track was a let down compared to his last return, 'SexyBack'Today it was reported that the new track was set to sell more than 'SexyBack'. Either way, you can form your own opinion by having a listen below.

Flume - 'Left Alone ft. Chet Faker'
Aussie electro producer Flume continues to impress ahead of the release of his self-titled debut album. This track with fellow Australian up-and-comer Chet Faker is a dark, introspective song with a grainy, sombre video to match. Whatever your feelings about the video might be, it's undeniably one of the best tracks of the year so far (only 18 days, we know).

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - 'Jubilee Street'
'Jubilee Street' is the second to be taken from Nick Cave's forthcoming album Push The Sky Away, following lead single 'We No Who U R'. The track moves from initially sparse guitar notes and a determined drum beat, building with intense and slightly menacing strings. The band will release their 15th studio album on February 18.

Solange - 'Make It Hot ft. Oliver Sim'
The news last year that Solange would be visiting London in January filled us all with a warming excitement. But during her XOYO show last night (January 17) she gave the audience one more special gift when she welcomed Oliver Sim of The xx on stage to perform a cover of Nicole Wray's 'Make It Hot' with her.

Four Tet - '0181'
Taking inspiration from Bowie's surprise announcement last week, Four Tet this week unexpectedly released '0181' for free download. The album, which plays straight through as a single mix, is a collection of rarities and early works from Kieran Hebden taken from his time making music between 1997 and 2001 - before he became heavily influenced by house music.

Everything Everything - 'Kemosabe (Post War Years remix)'
With Arc being released at the start of this week (January 14) and quickly climbing the iTunes charts, Everything Everything have been the band on everyone's lips this week. To be fair it is a brilliant album, and this remix from mates Post War Years is fantastic too.

Dave Grohl & Corey Taylor - 'From Can To Can't'
Anticipation is beginning to build around Grohl's documentary about the iconic Sound City studios especially since the news that he'd formed a 'supergroup' of sorts to provide the soundtrack. This week saw a taste of that soundtrack with the collaborative track from Grohl himself and Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor.

Frank Ocean ft. Andre 3000 - 'Pink Matter remix ft. Big Boi (Dirty)'
Although Andre 3000 has said there'll be no Outkast reunion unless the pair make a whole new Outkast album together, that was slightly contradicted this week when this remix of 'Pink Matter', the Frank Ocean track Andre appears on, was released featuring a verse from his Outkast partner Big Boi. Both rappers sound in fine form on the track, which makes us all the more desperate for news of an Outkast reunion.
