The Rolling Stones will not being playing at this year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, according to a source close to the band.

Rolling Stone have squashed rumours of a headline slot after claiming they have been informed by a reliable source that the legendary rockers will not be topping the bill in California.

The Rolling Stones were hotly tipped to be making an appearance at the festival after several leaked images seemingly gave the game away. The rockers listed Coachella 2013 in the live dates section of their mobile app, which excited Stones fans everywhere, but the leaked date was quickly taken down without any official confirmation from the band.

Speculation also increased when the Coachella organisers posted what could have been interpreted as a nod towards the group as it depicted a stone inside the field in which the Californian festival takes place. However, promoters, Goldenvoice later explained that this wasn't anything to do with The Rolling Stones and the picture was actually a polo ball which references the Empire Polo Grounds on which the festival takes place.

The Rolling Stones may not be headlining Coachella 2013

Although The Rolling Stones may not be headlining Coachella, both Mick Jagger abd Keith Richards have admitted they are open to the thought of more shows in 2013.

Jagger explained: "I'm going to see what's on the table and discuss it with everyone. We’ll announce it when we’ve figured it out."

Stones guitarist, Richards wanted fans to be patient. He said: "Really, all you're going to have to do is wait for an announcement."
