Beyonce has been accused of lip-synching her performance of 'The Star Spangled Banner' at Barack Obama's second inauguration ceremony this week, with apparent confirmation of the star miming to a pre-recorded track.

The US star blew the Obamas, and the rest of the watching world away with her cover of American anthem 'The Star Spangled Banner', but now it has been claimed that her performance was pre-recorded.

The Times newspaper claims to have had confirmation from a spokesperson for the Marine Corp Band, revealing that it is 'standard procedure' for performers to mime at such events. Organisers were said to be unwilling to allow Beyonce to perform live and she performed to a pre-recorded version of the track.

Yo Yo Ma is also said to have mimed his cello performance in 2008 due to similar precautions. Beyonce was seen tearing her earpiece out during the song, which was seen as many as yet another highlight of her showstopping performance - but it now appears that the act was a fake, if dramatic, gesture.

Beyonce attended the ceremony on Monday, 21 January, 2013 with husband Jay-Z and the hip-hop power couple joined the likes of Katy Perry, John Legend, John Mayer and Eva Longoria among the star studded guests at the event.

Other performers at the event includes James Taylor and Kelly Clarkson. Speaking of her performance, Clarkson said in an interview recently: "I think it's going to be the coolest thing ever to look back with my grandkids and go: "I was a part of that and I'm proud of that. I'm not ashamed of that," reports The Daily Mail.
