Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh was described as sounding like a 'dying cat' by reality TV stars after her performance at the National Television Awards. Watch the video below.
Walsh performed a cover of Randy Crawford's 'One Day I'll Fly Away' at the awards show, and was met with fierce criticism on Twitter by a number of celebrity viewers.
Former Celebrity Big Brother star Nicola McLean said of Walsh's performance: "Omg I'm a fan of Kimberly but she sounds like a dying cat #NTAs"
Her sentiments were echoed by fellow CBB contesants Chanelle Hayes and Jasmine Leonard, who also put the boot into the girl band star's solo spot.
"omg I was just thinking the same.... #awkward" tweeted Hayes in response to McLean.
Model Jasmine Lennard said of the cover: "I'm thinking Kimberley Walsh's management team have their head in their hands right now. Talk about MURDERING A SONG. That was NOT a good idea."
Walsh is the latest Girls Aloud star to launch a solo career, following bids from Cheryl Cole, Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle - all of whom have met with varied success. Walsh will release her debut solo album this year.
The singer, who has already enjoyed solo success with her 2011 Top Ten duet with Aggro Santos 'Like U Like', will release a collection of musical theatre classics on 4 February, 2013. The album, titled Centre Stage, will feature classic musical theatre hits 'completely reinvented' by the girl group star.
"I've always loved musical theatre and doing Shrek! The Musical definitely re-ignited the passion in me,” says Kimberley in a statement about her solo future. "I really wanted to share the love I have for musical theatre by taking some classic songs and completely reinventing them.
