MGMT have no plans to make an accessible third album, implying that it will be even weirder than 2010 album Congratulations.

The band have been inspired by electronic musician Aphex Twin, and the new self-titled album is expected to be released some time in June.

Bandmember Ben Goldwasser tells Rolling Stone magazine, "We're not trying to make music that everyone understands the first time they hear it."

Other half of the duo, Andrew VanWyngarden adds, "There's no illusion on [Columbia Records'] part that we're going to turn into a Top 40 band. That's kind of comforting."

The album apparently has a song called 'Alien Days' which, according to VanWyngarden, is "about that feeling when a parasitic alien is in your head, controlling things."

The band also recorded a cover of an obscure 60s song called 'Introspection', originally by Faine Jade.

Co-producer Dave Fridmann says, "The recording process was really strange. So we did a cover just to say, 'Let's get back to planet Earth for a second.'"

The band recently showcased their music to a cat. They wrote on Twitter, "This tiny kitten has just heard new MGMT songs," along with a picture of a black kitten being held in someone's hands.

Wyngarden had also revealed in 2012 in an interview with Intercourse magazine that five new songs have been written to follow up to Congratulations.
