Jake Bugg has revealed he has no time for X Factor boyband One Direction - saying the only direction they are heading is down.

The singer-songwriter claimed that he wasn't biased against 'pop' music, but that he just doesn't think that One Direction have any staying power.

Speaking to Q, Bugg said, "I don't care about the word 'pop', The Beatles were pop, it's just what's popular.

"But sadly what's popular today is most manufactured and commercial and all about fame and looks and boy bands. It's not on."

He continued, "One Direction? The young girls will grow up and forget about 'em.

"There's only [one direction] they'll be going after that, isn't there? Down. I'm interested in which songs, artists, will be remembered in 50 years' time."

This isn't the first time that Bugg has spoken out against manufactured chart music.

One Direction: lost to the ages in 50 years time...

In October, after he got the number one spot on the album chart with his self-titled debut, he told NME, "I guess it proves my point - people still want to hear guitar music.

"It's my job to keep that X Factor s**t off the top of the charts."

Bugg is currently nominated for a BRIT award for Best British Breakthrough Act.
