Olly Murs and Two Door Cinema Club have been revealed as the first acts confirmed for Radio 1's Big Weekend.

The music festival is set to be held in Derry, Northern Ireland and will mark the city being chosen as UK City Of Culture for 2013.

The last time the event was staged in Derry was back in 2004.

For this year's event the festival has been expanded to three days, and will run from May 24 to May 26.

The first day of the weekend will mainly focus on dance music with Radio 1Xtra, and will be held on two main stages set up in the city centre.

The first acts and the festivals location were announced this morning (January 31) by Nick Grimshaw on his Radio 1 breakfast show, which is currently broadcasting live from Derry.

BBC Radio will invite Derry's young people to take part in Radio 1 and 1Xtra's academy for a series of workshops running from May 13 to May 17.

BBC Head of Live Music, Events and Popular music Jason Carter said: "The last Big Weekend in the city in 2004 was a legendary music moment in Northern Ireland, and it's so great to be able to return with and even bigger show the second time around."

Ticket details will be announced shortly, and more headline acts will be revealed over the coming months.

Last year Radio 1 put on the Hackney Weekender in east London in celebration of the Olympic Park, with Jay-Z and Rihanna filling the headline slots.
