After the HMV Twitter feed revealed the live firing of employees, HMV administrators have confirmed that cuts have been made.
The tweets claimed that "over 60" HMV employees were being fired at once, and it has now been confirmed by Deloitte that there were in fact 190 job losses across the firm's head office and distribution network.
The job cuts included HMV's CFO Ian Kenyon and HMV's head of technology and games Ewan Pinder, although the rest of the games team is apparently mostly intact.
Joint administrator Nick Edwards told the BBC, "Since our appointment as administrators over two weeks ago, we have been assessing the financial position of HMV. Following this review, a number of redundancies at the head office and distribution centres have been made.
"Although such decisions are always difficult, it is a necessary step in restructuring the business to enhance the prospects of securing its future as a going concern."
He also spoke about the ongoing negotiations to sell HMV, adding, "We have been very pleased with the level of interest in the business as a going concern, whilst the response from customers has demonstrated the demand to see HMV remain on the high street."
This afternoon's tweets (31 January, 2013) from @HMVtweets
The HMV Twitter feed hadn't been used since 14 January, in order to announce the Blue Cross sale. However, today a disgruntled employee used it in order to share details of the firing taking place. The tweets have since been deleted from the account.
Ewan Pinder also wrote about his job loss on Twitter, posting, "The last two years at HMV have been a blast.
"Now to the future!! Hope it all works out for the team that remains. First batch now gone and questions being fielded. Clearly very upsetting and unhappy."
