Danny Baker's new BBC4 programme celebrating the vinyl LP attracted nearly half a million viewers for it's first installment.

Danny Baker's Great Album Showdown sees the radio personality host celebrity guests who debate the merits of their favourite LPs.

The first episode of the show, which featured Jeremy Clarkson, Stephen Street and Kate Mossman, drew 467,000 viewers, a 2% share of the total audience for the timeslot on Monday evening.

Channel 4's The Undatebales drew more than three million viewers, a 13.9% share of the audience, while the BBC's Death In Paradise brought in the biggest audience with six million tuning in to see singer Jamelia get murdered.

The first installment from Baker has been criticised by some for its lack of passionate debate, and the first episode saw Jeremy Clarkson emerge triumphant with his choice of Supertramp's Crime Of The century being admitted into Baker's 'Showdown Dozen'.

Apparently the show's budget didn't stretch to including any music

Many had hoped that the inclusion of Clarkson would bring with it the usual inflammatory remarks and heated debate from the motoring presenter, but his comments were allowed to pass without challenge.

Other criticisms included that fact that the show didn't play any music from the records being discussed, leaving the auidence to take the guests' word for their choices' brilliance.
