The British director of Beyonce's Super Bowl performance, Hamish Hamilton, has admitted to feeling an "incredible sense of fear" during the singer's half-time spectacle.

Hamilton has been behind some of the biggest shows on the planet during his directing career and was in charge of Madonna's 2012 Super Bowl performance as well assisting Danny Boyle for the Olympic Games opening ceremony in London, but apparantly that doesn't make it any easier to produce one of the most-viewed shows in the world.

He told The Guardian: "There is an incredible sense of fear. Then determination, and then blind panic.

"It is a ludicrous proposition: there are teams of staging units stretching down the tunnel and into the parking lot and thousands of people praying they make it to the right place in time."

It would seem that Beyonce's performance was the most challenging yet as the director admitted to a series of technical faults whilst the singer was on stage.

Hamilton continued: "We had technical issues. We had a camera on air that just decided to fall off its mount – I've never had that happen before – but it is the Super Bowl, and we covered it up beautifully.

"I'm in a truck watching it happen, and hoping and praying that the stage gets out, the connections are all made, and that everything is in location. Thousands of things can go wrong."

Apart from a huge power cut shortly after the performance, Hamilton couldn't have been happier with the way the biggest show on earth turned out.

He added:" Everybody said Madonna would be a tough one to top. But the reviews and response we have got suggests that we certainly matched that. I want to make each show a televisual spectacular, and I think we did that."
