Bruce Springsteen was honoured as Musicares Person of the Year at a star-studded pre-Grammys even last night (Friday) with the likes of Sting and Elton John in attendance.

The annual event celebrates a particular star’s achievements and philanthropic work throughout the year and is hosted by Grammy organisers to kick start the Grammy weekend.

This year’s event saw Springsteen collect the honour for a number of charitable events including performing at the Hurricane Sandy charity concert in Madison Square Garden to raise money for the people affected.

Upon collecting the award, the rock legend told the audience: “It’s kind of a freaky experience,” before going on to say the even was “like a huge Bar Mitzvah.”

Bruce Springsteen is up for three Grammy Awards

The Boss then took to the stage to perform hits such as ‘Born to Run’ and ‘Glory Days’ accompanied by wife Patti Scialfa and his band.

Springsteen also offered a guitar lesson to the person that bought one of his guitars during a silent auction. The prize was purchased for £250,000.

He said: “With this guitar comes one free guitar lesson with me."

The 63-year-old rocker is up for three Grammys including Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance. The awards ceremony takes place on Sunday 10 February.
