Emeli Sande has revealed that she plans to launch her own record label in the near future to help aspiring artists.

The singer's passion to start her own label comes from battling to gain recognition in her own music career.

She told the Daily Record: "I think I'm going to start a label - that's the business plan. That's what's happening."

Sande's latest single 'Clown' actually tells the story of a major label seeing her as a songwriter rather than a performer and how she felt at the time.

Sande revealed that the track refers to how frustrating it was to be dismissed as a performer in her years trying to get noticed.

She added: "It's about how I felt when I was trying to get signed, when I was going for all these meetings and people were looking at me like, 'What do we do with you?'

Sande continued, "I built a reputation as a songwriter before my own hits. People were coming to me for songs - I wanted to keep songs like 'Clown' and 'Mountains' to sing myself. But the record labels saw me as a songwriter. It was hard to get people to believe in me."

Sande is set to release her new live album and Live at The Royal Albert Hall DVD on 18 February.
