Kanye West and Kim Kardashian were allowed to bypass security at New York JFK airport, and had to be privately screened.

The pair were catching a connecting flight at the airport after arriving from Rio de Janeiro, when an employee accidentally allowed them to skip the TSA security checkpoint.

Kanye and Kim went through baggage and customs, and an employee then reportedly escorted them "through a non-public area in order to provide expedited access to their domestic flight."

But Transport Security Admission officials said that this violated security regulations, because it bypassed the TSA checkpoint.

A statement about the incident said, "The airline employee violated security protocols by permitting the travellers to bypass the TSA security checkpoint.

"TSA officials learned of the violation and conducted a private screening of the two passengers in the area of the jet-way."

The flight departed with a 50 minute delay, after Kanye and Kim were cleared to board their flight.

The couple's representatives have not responded to requests for comments.
