The Stereophonics had to contribute to the recent 12 Hours to Please Me sessions as they were announced as being involved before they'd officially said yes - luckily, they were happy to do it.

The sessions at Abbey Road Studios saw a host of artists record tracks from The Beatles' Please Please Me in a mammoth 12 hour session, and The Stereophonics tackled 'I Saw Her Standing There'.

"It was something I was asked about doing," frontman Kelly Jones tells Gigwise. "I don't think we'd officially said yes when they announced us so we had to do it."

He continued, "But it was good fun to do. Abbey Road's always a nice place to record, there's a great vibe in there."

The re-recording of the 1963 album took place on February 11, marking the 50th anniversary of the album's recording. Gabrielle Aplin, Joss Stone and Graham Coxon were also among the artists contributing songs.

"'I Saw Her Standing There' seemed like the most upbeat, natural song for a four-piece to play really," Kelly explains of their song choice.

"It's a simple rock and roll song, something you play in a bar or pub. It didn't really feel like work.

"I think Richard, our bassist, had his work cut out because it's a Paul McCartney bassline that was walking all over the place. He had the hardest job on the day.

"The Beatles' first albums particularly, what I loved about them was they were almost like a punk rock energy. It was just for guys in a room rocking, that's what they were celebrating on that day I think."

The Stereophonics leave Abbey Road after recording their track

The Stereophonics are currently preparing to release their eighth studio album, Graffiti On The Train, on March 4.

The band will be road testing the new material with a tour of small venues during March, before announcing an arena tour later this year.
