If Simon Cowell was planning on bringing Mel B in as a new judge for the UK's X Factor he might have to go back to the drawing board as the singer has said she wants to stay in Australia.

Mel was a guest judge on last year's series of the show and was known for her honesty and sense of humour.

She was initially labelled as 'mean' and 'too much' but won over the show's fans and bosses, leading to reports that Cowell had his eye on her to be a new full-time judge.

But it looks like Mel wants to stay in Oz, where she is settled with her family.

"Mel is pretty sure she wants to stay in Australia," a source told The Sun.

"She enjoyed appearing on the show in the UK but is telling friends she will stick to the set-up that she is the most comfortable with."

Apparently Mel was offered a slot on last year's show but was unable to take it due to her commitments to the Aussie X Factor and Nicole Scherzinger was drafted in instead.

A source said at the time: "Mel was our first choice. She was so quick and honest. You can't let everyone down gently or the praise is meaningless.

"There's a lot of money on the table for her next year."

Mel B was praised for her honesty and directness on the show

Boss Simon Cowell was holding crisis talks last month with show executives to come up with a strategy to remedy the show's falling ratings.

Tulisa is rumoured to be in line to get the chop, and there have been suggestions that Gary Barlow will walk before he's pushed.

Sharon Osbourne and Cheryl Cole have also been among the names mentioned to join the judging panel.
