Paloma Faith says one thing she can’t stand for is mediocrity, where she’s built up a bit of a comparison for being just like Marmite. Whether you love or hate this lady is your decision, however the spectacle of tonight’s show reinforces her statement that one thing she definitely isn’t is mediocre.

Tonight’s support act Josephine steps timidly onstage, accompanied only by her fellow guitarist. However any sign of nerves are washed away instantly, as she sings with power and softness in all the right places that compliments her folky-pop style. Such a voice is a perfect warm up, also proving that Josephine is a star in the making.

Suspense is upon the audience as the lights dim and the curtains draw, to reveal Paloma looking stunning in a long glittering gown draping fur over her shoulders. Opening with ‘Let Your Love Walk In’ she oozes old school glamour, where the once cabaret performer uses her tricks to teases the room with the removal of her fur shawl. There’s no denying Paloma is one sassy lady!

It’s hard not to be completely mesmerised by Paloma as she commands the stage with every gentle move and quick transition into a shimmy-shake. ’30 Minute Love Affair’ and ‘Blood Sweat & Tears’ come early on into the set but allow the audience to warm up by singing and clapping along.

After singing her heart out it’s not only Paloma’s music that charms the crowd, it’s her down to earth sense of humour that’ll truly win you over. She really does have everyone in stitches as she makes fun of herself on more than one occasion, quite the refreshing change from the usual celebrity narcissist.

It’s her soulful rendition of Etta James’s ‘Something’s Got a Hold on Me’ that proves Paloma’s ability, with vocal expression and sassy improvisation from her talented band that make this a special treat.

However ‘Just Be’ is the standout track from tonight, which can only be described as outstanding. Paloma lounges on the grand piano, leaving the crowd in stunned silence as it feels like she’s singing a personal story to every individual in the room.

Paloma’s encore ends with a crowd favourite ‘Picking Up the Pieces’ sealing the deal that tonight’s performance is nothing short of spectacular. With upbeat sing-along tracks and powerful ballads Paloma gives her own unique twist, bringing you the best of this very fabulous lady.
