First Radiohead, now The Smiths (again) - at least David Cameron's always got One Direction to listen to.

Despite the fact that The Smiths' former guitarist, Johnny Marr, 'banned' the Prime Minister from listening to the band in 2010, Cameron has said that he continues to do so anyway.

Speaking to BBC News, Cameron said, "I've now got Johnny Marr and other members of the band saying I'm not able to listen to the The Smiths.

"When I've got the complete and full set, even then, I'm afraid, I will go on and listen to The Smiths."

Marr most recently 'banned' Cameron in an interview with BBC Radio 4's Today programme. Speaking about 'This Charming Man', he said, "I think he likes the song.

"That's probably sadder than if he didn't know it, really. He's entitled to like whatever he likes, as long as he doesn't say it. It's a good song."

He continued, "I do forbid him to like it. He shouldn't like us because we're not his kind of people."

In 2010, Marr's original comments were made by Twitter, when he posted, "David Cameron, stop saying that you like The Smiths, no you don't. I forbid you to like it."

He has also been backed up by bandmate Morrissey, who said in 2010, "It is true that music is a universal language - the ONLY universal language, and belongs to all, one way or another.

"However, with fitting grimness I must report that David Cameron hunts and shoots and kills stags - apparently for pleasure.

"It was not for such people that either Meat is Murder or The Queen is Dead were recorded; in fact they were made as a reaction against such violence."
