Mumford and Sons have revealed that they received a very special piece of advice from Sir Elton John before they went on stage to perform at the 2013 Grammy Awards as the pop icon told band member Wintson Marshall not to ‘get his c**k out’.

The folk band picked up the Album of the Year award at this year’s ceremony and admitted that Sir Elton’s relaxed attitude made them feel a lot less nervous.

Banjo player, Marshall told Zane Lowe: “Sir Elton goes, 'Winston, Winston! Come over here'. So I [went] over and I said, 'You alright Sir Elton, what's up?'

"He goes, 'Winston, now would be a f**king terrible time to get your c**k out'."

Marshall continued: “Elton John is an absolute lad. He's a hero. He made that whole thing fun, because it was so weird."

Mumford & Sons also went home with the Best British Group award at this year’s Brit Awards, but found themselves evoking the wrath of One Direction fans after rumours spread that the folk singers blanked their fellow nominees whilst backstage.

One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson said at the afterparty, "It was disappointing. Mumford’s reaction was disappointing. "We’re really big fans and wanted to congratulate them. It was a shame."
